Police abuse and arrest demonstrators protesting against economic crisis

Police have arrested protesters during demonstrations against the cost of living and the economic crisis gripping the country. Some journalists who were covering the protests, which took place outside the main government building, were among those arrested.

The National Peace Council (NPC) has expressed deep concern regarding the manner in which the police arrested peaceful protesters during Thursday’s Democracy Hub demonstration.

Civil Society Organisation, OccupyGhana, has condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters during Thursday’s #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration.

According to OccupyGhana, the arrests were unconstitutional and infringed upon the fundamental human rights of the protesters to freely express themselves and assemble.
